Neither, Community Futures Sun Country is an independent not-for-profit corporation run by a local Board of Volunteers that provides financial and non-financial assistance.

Who can use Sun Country's services?
Anyone in the Sun Country area. If you have a business idea or question please contact us. You do not have to be on Employment Insurance, or Social Assistance to receive assistance. Our services are open to all Canadians.

How can Sun Country help me with my business idea?
There are a number of services that Sun Country provides for people with business ideas. We offer FREE one-on-one business counseling, and have an excellent business resource library with books, videos, and information pamphlets that may answer many of your questions.

Why do I need to prepare a business plan?
In order to operate your business, you will need to know the answers to all of the relevant questions concerning your business. Running the business will be a great deal easier and less costly if your plan is well researched and understood before your money is invested and you open the doors to customers.

How do I prepare a business plan?
Contact our office, and we can meet with you one on one to discuss the process. Or you can utilize the Interactive Business Planner, which will also support you through the process.

Do I have to get a loan from you to get assistance on the business plan?
No.

Do you provide grants?
No. We provide repayable loans for viable businesses.

How do I apply for a loan?
The process is described in our "Steps to Getting a Loan".

Can I use Sun Country's service if I secure financing from another source?
Yes, you can use our service without feeling obligated to apply for a loan with us. We are here to promote business development in the Sun Country area and encourage you to seek financing from any source that you feel is best for you and your company.

What 'down payment' do you require?
We look for many things when determining this, but your personal financial statement will show what you have available and your business plan will show what level of owner capital you should be providing.

Do I get my 1% application fee back if I'm declined for a loan?
No, this is a non-refundable application fee that we use to cover costs associated with processing your loan application.

How long does it take to get a loan?
Usually no more than two weeks after you submit a completed business plan with all accompanying documentation.

If I'm accepted for the Self Employment Program, then do I get a loan?
The Self Employment Program and Loans Program are two separate programs. If your business plan requires financing you should discuss this with the Self Employment Coordinator.

If the eligibility form comes back from Human Resources Development Canada that I am eligible, does this mean I am approved for the Program?
No. This means that you are eligible to continue in the process.
